The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) announced the debut of its Youth Entrepreneur Conference, a flagship initiative aimed at immersing young Guyanese in the fundamentals of entrepreneurship, innovation and emerging business opportunities. The event, themed “Igniting Guyana’s Next Generation of Entrepreneurs,” is scheduled for Saturday, 12 September 2026, and will run throughout the day in Georgetown.
According to GCCI, the conference is designed to reach students, recent graduates and early‑career professionals who are eager to explore business creation as a viable career path. Organisers say the programme will feature a series of interactive sessions that cover topics such as idea generation, digital tools for start‑ups, access to financing and market trends specific to the Caribbean region.
The Chamber expects a diverse audience of up to several hundred participants, with slots for networking, mentorship and hands‑on workshops. While the exact agenda has not been released, GCCI officials have indicated that local business leaders, successful entrepreneurs and representatives from government agencies will share insights and practical advice.
The launch reflects a broader push across Guyana to empower youth through skill‑building and economic inclusion. Recent regional efforts – from scholarship programmes that link sport and education to new civic‑action camps – underscore a growing recognition that early exposure to entrepreneurship can stimulate job creation and diversify the national economy. By targeting the next generation, GCCI hopes to nurture home‑grown enterprises that can compete locally and internationally.
GCCI spokespersons have urged interested young people to register early, noting that the conference will provide a rare platform to connect with mentors and potential investors. The Chamber anticipates that the event will spark a wave of start‑up activity, contributing to Guyana’s long‑term development goals and reinforcing the country’s reputation as an emerging hub for innovation in the Caribbean.
