More than 100 young people from Kingston and St Andrew gathered at Caribbean Maritime University on 12 August 2026 for Grace & Staff Community Development Foundation’s International Youth Day programme, "Different Communities. One Digital Future." The event, co‑hosted with the Ministry of Education, Youth, Skills and Information, aimed to equip participants with practical AI knowledge and a roadmap for the island’s growing digital economy.

An interactive panel explored how artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies are reshaping education, work and everyday life. Speakers urged the audience to adopt responsible, productive habits and to develop the adaptability required for future jobs. After the discussion, attendees toured CMU’s facilities, tested simulation software and hands‑on AI tools, and were encouraged to see themselves as creators and innovators regardless of their community background.

Foundation CEO Sandrina Davis said the initiative provides the exposure, support and opportunities needed for Jamaican youth to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital landscape. Participant Giovanni Wright called the panel "a highlight," noting the valuable advice and practical tips that can boost personal and professional growth, and urging peers to stay curious, ask questions and embrace failure as part of learning.

The programme reflects a wider Ministry push to embed digital literacy across youth development programmes, signalling a concerted effort to prepare the next generation for a technology‑driven future.
