Indonesia’s primary aviation hub outside Jakarta halted operations after volcanic ash from the erupting Mount Anak Krakatau drifted over the nation's capital. Officials at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport announced a temporary suspension of flights until early afternoon, pointing to heightened eruptive behavior from the volcano situated over 150 kilometers away.
The volcano commenced its eruptive phase late Friday, unleashing a lava fountain and loud acoustic blasts audible up to 700 kilometers distant, according to data from the meteorological agency BMKG. The significant ash spread prompted immediate precautionary travel measures to ensure passenger safety amid the ongoing geological activity.
