On Saturday, September 19, hundreds of Barbadians will roll up their sleeves across the island for the annual Green Nation Clean‑up, taking place one day ahead of World Clean‑up Day. First launched by Nation Publishing five years ago, the Green Nation initiative brings together everyday citizens, schools, local businesses, environmental groups, and Government agencies to play a vital role in preserving the natural environment.

This year’s clean‑up efforts will focus specifically on three gullies that have frequently served as sites of indiscriminate dumping. Organisers have repeatedly stressed that illegal dumping carries serious, long‑term consequences for local communities and the wider environment, impacting both land and sea.

In conjunction with the physical clean‑up, the Sunday Sun is featuring a special eight‑page spread highlighting the dedicated volunteers driving the movement. The publication also offers practical steps that households can adopt immediately, demonstrating how everyday habit changes and greater community care can build lasting environmental pride across Barbados.
