Jamaica’s foreign minister, Senator Kamina Johnson Smith, will steer the nation’s delegation to the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York, pledging to push for development financing, climate resilience, and multilateral reform. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade announced that the delegation's priorities align with the UNGA theme, “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All.”

In addition to addressing peace and security, Jamaica will co-chair the General Assembly’s Ad Hoc Working Group on Mandate Implementation Review alongside Norway, with Ambassador Brian Wallace serving in a leadership role. The delegation intends to advocate for international financial arrangements that better address the unique vulnerabilities of developing nations, particularly regarding climate adaptation and loss-and-damage financing.
