While celebrating their hard-fought play-off semi-final victory over New Caledonia, Reggae Boyz captain Andre Blake has warned his squad that they must tighten up their cohesion ahead of Tuesday's ultimate World Cup qualifying clash against DR Congo.

The Reggae Boyz kept their qualification dreams alive on Thursday evening by securing a narrow 1-0 victory against Oceania opponents New Caledonia at the Estadio Akron in Guadalajara, Mexico, according to reports from the Jamaica Gleaner and Jamaica Observer. The decisive moment arrived in the 18th minute when striker Bailey Cadamarteri capitalized on a rebound, tapping in after New Caledonia goalkeeper Rocky Nyikeine parried a powerful low free-kick from left-back Ronaldo Webster.

Despite advancing to the final stretch of the intercontinental play-offs, team captain and goalkeeper Andre Blake candidly addressed areas of concern following the final whistle. According to the Jamaica Gleaner, Blake stated that the team lost a degree of balance and tactical synchronisation after interim head coach Rudolph Speid introduced late substitutions. The veteran goalkeeper noted that because the squad remains relatively new, maintaining consistent rhythm across all ninety minutes remains an ongoing developmental priority.

At the same time, Blake praised the squad for fostering a welcoming environment for newcomers. He highlighted that senior players successfully supported debutants Ephron Mason-Clark and Andre Brooks, helping the fresh faces settle in and feel comfortable within the international setup. Interim coach Speid made seven total changes to the starting lineup from their previous outing against Curaçao, handing competitive debuts to both Mason-Clark and Brooks.

Looking ahead, Jamaica faces a monumental test on Tuesday when they square off against the Democratic Republic of Congo in the play-off final. According to Barbados Today and the Jamaica Observer, the winner of Tuesday's showdown will secure a guaranteed spot in Group K of the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, where they will join Portugal, Colombia, and Uzbekistan. Having missed out on automatic qualification after finishing behind Curaçao in Group B of the Concacaf qualifiers, the Reggae Boyz are fully focused on making their second chance count and ending a 28-year World Cup drought stretching back to 1998.
